» Find Out MoreThe Rig 200 WiFi Option is an IEEE 802.11b/g compliant device, supporting wireless networking operation at up to 54 Mbps. Its small size (20 x 20mm) and high specification make it ideal for use in environments requiring high bandwidth wireless operation. The WiFi Option attaches to a low profile custom connector at the bottom right of the Rig 200 board. Stand-offs and mounting screws are provided to ensure secure mounting.
The WiFi Option supports a range of security options:
Internally the WiFi Option uses a high speed Compact Flash interface and appears as a Compact Flash card to the Snapper module. This offers much higher speed than USB, serial SPI or SDIO interfaces, to ensure that the wireless network speed is the limiting factor on the performance.
The WiFi Option includes a small coaxial antenna connector. A cable is provided which snaps onto this and provides a standard-size SMA connector for the supply antenna. In this way the antenna can be mounted wholy within a plastic enclosure or outside a metal enclosure as required.
The WiFi Option includes a microcontroller with its own firmware, which is loaded into the unit by the Snapper driver. Connection to an access point by ESSID or MAC address is supported and the WiFi Option supports automatic scanning for re-attachment after a connection to an access point has been lost. A wide range of other features are included such as custom scanning arrangements.
The WiFi Option draws minimal power and supports a deep sleep mode where
power consumption is minimised. In addition, Rig 200 can power the WiFi
Option off completely in software.
