Snapper 270 provides engineers with a compact, ready to use, ARM based microprocessor module that delivers high-performance and helps reduce development time and cost. Designed to be the system core for a wide range of ARM based products and embedded solutions, Snapper 270 provides 128MB of SDRAM, up to 1GB of NAND Flash storage and a broad range of peripherals.

Snapper 270 is almost unique in the module space in that it uses 1.8V SDRAM rather than 3.3V. This cuts memory power consumption by half versus other modules. In addition, all high speed memory signals are buffered on the module, meaning that the application board designer does not generally need to worry about high speed signal integrity. Snapper 270 is optimised for low-power consumption. As well as a CPU sleep mode, on-board peripherals such as Ethernet, audio codec and NOR flash can be powered off completely when not needed. With a power consumption of 900mW, Snapper 270 can sleep for a year with a small 1A hour Li-Ion cell. Snapper System Modules dramatically cut product development costs by 50% - 80%. When added to the savings achieved from using a single system core across multiple products and seamlessly transitioning from prototype to product, using Snapper as part of Bluewater Systems Modular Design process enables companies to slash up front product development costs and accelerate time to market.

Snapper 270 is supplied in either the standard Snapper foot print (6 x Hirose connectors) or in a DIMM version. It ships with a 520 MHz Marvel PXA270 microprocessor, 128 MB or 64 MB of SDRAM, up to 1GB of storage flash, USB device and host, 10/100T Ethernet MAC & PHY, multiple Serial UARTs, an AC97 20-bit stereo audio codec and touch-screen controller, a poweful LCD controller, and SD/MMC support. A boot loader allows an Operating System to be stored in storage flash for easy in-field upgradability. This solution reduces cost verses a traditional NOR flash boot approach. It also offers much faster programming speed for production. Embedded Linux 2.6 and WinCE 5.0 operating systems are both available.
