Applications
We envisage a large number of interesting applications for this low cost ARM development system, whether they be hobbyist or university student projects, prototypes, or educational experiences.
Look at Example Programs for a few simple programs, demonstrating use of the LEDs (and other GPIOs) and the serial port, and a simple program demonstrating connection to a character LCD module.
If you are stuck for an idea for a project to get you started, here are some ideas:
- network-to-serial bridge - telnet or ssh into your legacy serial peripherals over the internet.
- home media center remote - attach an LCD, some buttons, an IR remote reciever, or even a USB sound-card and attach to your network.
- ethernet JTAG debugger - make a powerful ethernet-attached debugger (like a RealView ICE (http://www.bluewatersys.com/development/doc/realview/rvi.php)) to replace your parallel port adapter.
- network-attached camera - hook up a USB webcam and record security footage to your server over the network.
- a better router - perhaps not the most exciting application; add features like VPN to your router.
- remote monitoring - connect USB sensors (e.g. USB weather station) and monitor them from your web browser.
- car computer - needs a 12v DC power circuit with some kind of smoothing and shutdown on no ignition command.
- USB key drive or USB hard drive as storage
- USB GPS or wireless 802.11 ethernet
